Who are you? What do you do?

I am a painter, I am in the studio.

Where are you from?

I grew up in Regensburg, but I live in Berlin for over 13 years now.

Your style in 3 words?

Strong | beautiful | fervent

Your weakness? Your strength?

Obstinacy | persistence.

What makes you different?

I have the heart of a lion!

When did you decide to become an artist?

I got a strong vibe seeing Míro at the Museo de la Reina Sophia, when I was 18.  The actual decision took shape in the course of a long fight against “grown ups”  and institutions.

What do you find most fascinating about your work?

Making mistakes …failure looking so fresh!

A few words about your favourite creation?

One of my favourite creations is the painting installation “welcome to moa moa”, an island I made out of different fabrics and pink yarn in 2015. The palm tree is still a permanent installation in my studio in Moabit and it reminds me of themes like departure and refuge issues that are, incidentally, closely associated with Moabit as a historical space.

Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you…

When I started painting, Daniel Richter was one of my all-time heroes, his show at CFA in 2005 just blew me away. These days, one of the artists I admire a lot is Christine Streuli. Her works are maddeningly powerful – an ingenious artist who re-invents artisanal techniques. I would paint my ear red for her.

A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?

I’m working on a show with four artist friends for a 300qm attic in Berlin-Pakow. It’s a very special place and I like working with people I trust.

Finish the sentence „More important than my career is…“

2018: Where are we going?

When the going gets tough…

…lasagne!

Your city’s favourite spots?

Kieler Brücke on my way to the studio. I always stay there for some minutes and watch the strange skyline.

Do you have a vision?

I have visions by the sea.

Tell us about your future plans…

I will move to a new studio in Wedding in January, it’s twice the size of the one I am using at present. I can’t wait to start working there.

Last but not least: what is your favourite Song?

Right now it’s „Terra promessa“ by Eros Ramazzotti It’s so great when you stand on a chair with a brush in your hand and reign supreme over all colours.
