Who are you? What do you do?
I am a painter, working with photography, drawing, and oil painting.
Where are you from?
I was born in Lorraine (East of France) and I live near Paris.
Your style in 3 words?
Thick, overexposed, enigmatic.
Your weakness? Your strength?
My fears / I am strong-minded 🙂
What makes you different?
As a painter, I will say ‘my eye’ (the way I am looking at things)
When did you decide to become an artist?
As far as I remember, I always drew. Around 10, I wanted to become a painter…
What do you find most fascinating about your work?
The very last brush strokes, and the surprise of a painting that appears. I like the fact that the work deals with the doubt – of presence – and the enigma of the image, and that fascinates me.
A few words about your favourite creation?
It is a painting entitled ‘Aussière’ (2016), which figures a weird inflatable monkey… Everything is indefinable, in a kind of indecision.
Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you…
Manet, Chardin, Morandi, Tuymans, Tillmans, Dumas, Sweenen,…
A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?
I am currently working on a solo show (and an art book) in an Art Center in Normandy (2018), and I will take part in an exhibition in Berlin, in Erratum Projektraum, in October.
Finish the sentence „More important than my career is…“
To paint !
2017: Where are we going?
That is a good question 🙂 …
When the going gets tough…
Put things into perspective!
Your city’s favourite spots?
The Charvin shop, for oil painting (Paris 6), Deyrolle, an incredible curiosity cabinet (Paris 7), the Yvon Lambert bookshop (Paris 3), the Delacroix museum, a wonderful place (Paris 6), the Parc Caillebotte, near where I live (Yerres)…
Do you have a vision?
It is the whole Painting Thing, so I hope so.
Tell us about your future plans…
In the very near future, I will have a solo show with Eric Mircher for la FIAC in Paris, and I am going to teach Painting at the School of fine arts in Strasbourg.
Last but not least: what is your favourite Song?
Chelsea Hotel (Leonard Cohen) ♥ La chanson de Prévert (Serge Gainsbourg)
