Who are you?  Where are you from? What do you do?

My name is Joanne Fordham, I am 29 years old and I live, work and study in Hamburg, Germany. Holding a degree in fashion design I presently focus on illustrational work for editorials, books and textiles. No matter what kind of discipline we are talking about I really enjoy experimental work and technique mixture.

Your style in 3 words?

I’d like to go for the words expressive, authentic and honest.

Picture 15What is your weakness?

There is often so much inspiration and far too many thoughts and ideas… I sometimes find it hard to hold on to one present project. It can happen that there is a lot of input and still no result in the end, but somehow this is what creative process is all about.

What is your strength?

I would say I have many interests and ideas. I feel free to try, not only concerning creative work…

Picture 14What makes you different?

I just try to do what I feel and what I love and I try to be good in what I do. But really, trying to be different is equal with fulfilling a common expectation. In times of globalism everybody is longing for differentness. Everyone tries so hard to be different, to stand out. That’s tough!

A few words about your work?

Picturing faces and figures with their expression fascinates me. Apart from that I like to experiment with materials and media.

What inspires you?

Inspiration really can come from anything. For me there is no recipe at all. But what help can help is any kind of new impression… In this case, activity is an essential aspect to me. Nothing will come to my mind when you stand still.

How do your face uncertainties?

I walk my dog or meet a friend.
