Who are you? What do you do?
I’m Antoine Cordet, a young man trying to paint interesting things.
Where are you from?
Paris, France.
Your style in 3 words?
White – quiet – motionless.
Your weakness? Your strength?
My social anxiety. My ability to deal with it, to be positive and very motivated.
What makes you different?
Maybe my life experience, the way it influenced me to paint and to transcribe feelings.
When did you decide to become an artist?
It happened five years ago. I realized I wanted to do things by my own, so I locked myself in my apartment for 2 years and painted every day until opportunities came up.
What do you find most fascinating about your work?
For me, the only moment which is fascinating is the final steps. When you see the subject appear in its entirety. I know at this moment if the painting stands or not. All that’s before is a kind of stress and fear.
A few words about your favourite creation?
At this moment it’s « NO ACID ». I painted my niece Eloïse, I like this piece because of its intensity.
Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you…
There are a lot of artists, dead or alive, who inspire me. On the internet you can access to a lot of works so you can find inspiration from your couch and discover new talented artists. There are galleries and museums too, recently I fell in love with Anton Van Dick’s work at the Louvre and not only because he has the same name as me…
A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?
I’m working on a solo show planned for May at Galerie Flash in Munich, other things will come with Robert Fontaine Gallery in Miami. Beyond that, I have a lot of ideas that I can’t realize yet, this is only the beginning, I need time and patience. And to work hard.
Finish the sentence „More important than my career is…“
Houuuuu…very difficult « finish the sentence » question. This is what makes me feel alive and useful so…
2018: Where are we going?
We go into the wall laughing!!… More seriously, as far as I’m concerned I have a good intuition for this year, I think good things will happen, and I like even-numbered years…Regarding the world, I don’t know but I’m not pessimistic.
When the going gets tough…
I leave to the country side or out of France, I meditate or I drink, optionally.
Your city’s favourite spots?
The view of the Alexander-III Bridge on a winter night.
Do you have a vision?
I see myself evolving more and more…
What would you do if you could change the World?
I would like to reform education, teach children respect, tolerance and morality, listen to what they have to say, and make them more aware about what can be done in life. Life is not only about knowing how to work but also how to live, it’s obvious. If you pollute a river at the source then it will be completely soiled, it’s the same for human beings, if children are happy and benevolent then the world will surely be better in two or three generations. Amen.
Tell us about your future plans…
I have to go back to NYC, when I could I will move in a bigger studio. For other plans I really don’t know actually, if I have a good opportunity halfway around the world maybe I’ll go, I’m totally free.
Last but not least: what is your favourite Song?
It’s too hard to pick just one, I can just tell you that at this moment I’m listening to the excellent new album of Corbin « Mourn ».
